Hi Marcia, People have gotten their ‘smart’ meter removed with a doctor’s note saying there are verifiable health problems with the meters. Complain to the CPUC as well and include your doctors note. DON’T take no for an answer. People have been known to COMPLETELY wrap their meter in aluminum foil (shiny side in) and this blocks the microwaves. If you don’t wrap it completely, the waves can be worse inside the house. This can be considered a reasonable form of civil disobedience as PG&E won’t let anyone opt out.

PG&E sent a flyer in the mail a few months ago saying Smart Meters were coming to our neighborhood – and included contact to call to opt out. I called and was told that Smart Meters were already installed at our home LAST YEAR. No one told us. No one knocked to let us know. The person who called me back said that he didn’t know about the postal circular either, and that there is no way to opt out or replace with old kind, even with doctor’s prescription. HELP.
