Plumas Sierra Rural Electric Co-Operative (PSREC) disconnected electricity to the family of Stop Smart Meters! Director Josh Hart at 2pm on February 19th, 2014 for refusing to pay the extortionate ‘opt out fee.’
UPDATE July 2nd, 2015: the electricity has been restored to the Harts, and opt out fees dropped after an appeal hearing in Superior Court.
We renew our demand that PSREC (and all utilities) allow analog meter choice to all their customers, at no charge. Below is a summary of the dispute between the Harts and PSREC. Please donate and support our work today. Thanks everyone.

TO MR BOB MARSHALL , TAKING ELECTRICITY AWAY FROM CITIZENS IS A SIN AND A CRIME AS WE THE PEOPLE HAVE A VOICE AND IN ORDER TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK FROM GREEDY CORPORATIONS WE HAVE TO STAND UP TO WHAT IS RIGHT . THE TIME IS HERE AS A GREAT SHIFT IS HERE TO TAKE OUR POWER AND FREEDOM BACK , PEOPLE ARE AWAKE FINALLY . FREE ENERGY IS HERE AND HAS BEEN HERE FOR A LONG TIME BUT OUR GREEDY CORPORATIONS HAVE MADE SURE WE WOULD NOT KNOW THAT SO YOUR TIME IS REALLY SHORT BEFORE YOUR LOOSE YOUR CONTROL FOR EVER , ENJOY WHAT LITTLE TIME YOU HAVE LEFT . GIVE JOSHUA HART HIS POWER BACK .
As well as kicking up a lot of noise all those pissed-off people should chip in a couple of dollars and set the Harts up with a super-sized U-beaut solar and/or wind system* and tell the company to get stuffed.
THEN send a legal notice of claim charging the power company rent for the crap ~ cables, meters, etc. they’ve ‘stored’ on the Harts’ property.
It’s a separate angle of attack, but there’s no reason y’can’t fight the good fight and let down their tyres as well.
All the best.
Jason
*and also tell the Harts to modify their use of electricity ~ I average usage of 3kwh per day here in Southern Victoria, Australia, which has a very similar climate is to California’s .
My system’s been up for four years (grid-connected, which means I get paid for the power I export to the grid) and so far I’m getting about $1600 pa after expenses. However, the expenses continue to increase (last bill the ‘Service to Property’ increased a further 20% on the previous quarter ~ altogether up 350% in the four years) but I saw all that coming and initially sized my system to run the whole house ~ with plenty in reserve ~ so that when they stopped sending me money I’d simply disconnect and run the entire house via a stand-alone battery system.
I lived with solar-power alone for 22 years from 1981. Not only is it possible to do so, but the components for doing so are so cheap and reliable these days (gotta shop around though) that I’m surprised everybody isn’t doing it.
For example:- then cost of the ‘Service Charge’ alone over three years will buy me a batter-bank that’ll last for ten years. Do the arithmetic.

All the best….and remember the old saying:- nil bastardo carborundum !
For the Josh Hart family Your actions will one day be known for the truth you hold.

Please turn the power back on for the Hart family. They have paid for all their electric, and having electric service shouldn’t require them to give up health, privacy, or pay extra to retain those. “Since 1937” you’ve been delivering and charging for electricity without radiation-emitting devices. Your efficiency should be high by now – there’s no reason to charge more for doing the same thing you’ve always done, independent of energy rates.
It seems like you and other utilities charging these “opt-out” fees are trying to penalize people simply for not wanting a new product. It’s not sustainable business to treat customers this way. You want to charge extra to the Harts so that other people won’t get rid of the wireless meters too. If the wireless meters are so good, how come nobody wants them – except Big Gov’t and Big Energy? Your customers – the ones who pay you – area the ones you should be listening to. Ignore them at your own peril – that’s how business works.
In summary, opt-out is visible for what it really is – extortion and coercion. Bullying customers because they don’t want to buy a new product is not the way to succeed in business. Instead I would recommend listening to the needs of your customers – and I know no one has been asking you for smart meters. I’m sure it’s the opposite – people have been asking about them because they don’t want them. There was and is no demand for smart meters by consumers. So stop trying to strong-arm your coop members into taking the things.

I’ve been trying to call them as well, but they don’t pick up. I’m wondering if they see an unknown area code and decide not to pick up thinking it is someone calling about your situation. My heart goes out to your family, Josh. I hope this hardship ends soon. I hope they see the foolishness of what they are doing to you.
It’s happening in Australia. It’s happened to me 🙁

Just as these I allege now proving to be Evil Electric Power Companies C.E.O’s keep on gloating over the continual ripping off more and more money from their customers, which is STEALING for sure. In the next life after they these Electric power company moguls die on Earth who have wickedly enslaved decent citizens, so will the good things in the next life be kept from them these thieves of the Electric power companies and all forms of thieves, so proclaimed Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
Excuse me, Richard, you have a little something on your sleeve.
